Last night I attended an exclusive event at Kryolan store in Covent Garden, The launch of The Complete Make-up Artist textbook third edition, which included exclusive book signing by the one and only Penny Delamar, the author, principal and founder of Delamar Academy. “Penny has over 30years experience as a make-up designer. She was trained at the BBC where she worked for 10years making-up everyone from the Beatles and the Rolling Stones to Margaret Thatcher and Sir Anthony Hopkins. Penny then worked as a freelance make-up artist on films such as “Santa Claus the Movie” (as personal make-up artist to Dudley Moore) as well as “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’ and ‘Robbin Hood Prince of Thieves’ to name but a few. In 1986 Penny founded the Delamar Academy which is based at Ealing film Studios. London and globally recognized as one of the leading training schools for make-up artists. Counting Oscars, Bafta, and Emmy award winners amongst her alumni.Penny and her team have trained many of the most successful make-up artists working all over the world.”
I had the pleasure of meeting Penny in person. I have great admiration and outmost respect for this inspirational and talented lady. I think she is a great role model for woman entrepreneurs like myself, for makeup artists and the young generation alike. We had a lovely conversation, spoke about my Artistic life, about the making of the book and the Delamar Academy and all the talented students and their work, some of them I meet at the event, and their make-uk work is featured in this book. I would highly recommend the book to anybody that is serious about getting into makeup, or make-up artists that want to brush up their skills learning new techniques.
The book is beautifully put together and is packed with amazing photos, steps by step tutorials, tips on the best products to use and all you need to know about working on Film, Fashion, TV and Theatre, from leading make-up artists in the industry. I am super excited about it and can’t wait to read it. I will write another in depth blog post with my review of the book after I finish reading it, so keep checking for more.
I had so much fun at the event, went with my super talented friend Anoushka Romanenkova one of the best creative hair stylists I ever worked with, we enjoyed the delicious canapés and champagne in the company of leading make-up artists at one of my favorite places in London, I feel like a kid in candy store every time i visit Kryolan, expect is an adults candy store, where you must try all the candy possible. I picked up a few things while there as I never have enough makeup, even though I am running out of space to put them, like most make-up artists I know. If you like to purchase the book head over to Kryolan in Covent Garden and get your very own copy. Thank you to Zoe from Kryolan and Monika from Delamar Academy for the invite, look forward to the future events.
